Alkenyl succinic anhydrides (ASA) are modified five-membered succinic anhydrides bearing a branched iso-alkenyl chain (C14 to C22). They are colorless, and usually viscous liquids. They are widely used, especially in surface sizing of paper, paperboard, and cardboard, as well as in the hydrophobicization of cellulose fibers.

The main chemical composition of Bluesun's  Fennosize AS 2300   sizing agent is alkenyl succinic anhydride, referred to as ASA, which is used more and more widely in alkaline papermaking as a synthetic sizing agent, with its faster reaction rate, higher on-machine sizing rate. It has been matured more than 90% before the size press, it can improves the paper machine operating efficiency and paper quality, and shows cost advantages obviously on each paper type. So it is increasingly replacing AKD sizing agents and Rosin gum sizing agent and used to a variety of paper and board production.
